1007 On Feb. 15, 2017, the family of Loran Roland Simantel said goodbye to their beloved husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and friend. Born to Agnes and Ernest Simantel on Feb. 18, 1936, in Lewistown, Mont. Roland was raised in the Willamette Valley along with his sister Shirley. In his youth, Roland enjoyed many different activities, such as hunting, fishing, water skiing, playing sports and flying (having learned at 16). It didn’t take long for Roland to develop an incredible work ethic, resulting in him working countless hours before school, after school and on weekends. The many jobs included working on wheat, produce, and turkey farms, as well as the Willamina Plywood Mill and also hauling lumber out of Gopher Valley.
In the fall of 1956, he met Sharon (McKenney), his wife of 59 years in Hopewell Ore. Early in 1957, Roland moved out of the Willamette Valley and went to work for the Blalock Herford Ranch outside Arlington, Ore., and thus began his life as a dry land wheat farmer and cattle rancher. Later that year, on June 29, 1957, Roland and Sharon were married. In the fall of 1958 they started and raised their family of four children; Jon, David, Nancy, and Robert. In 1971, the family moved to and began farming in Sherman County while continuing to farm in Gilliam County. Roland served on the Wasco school board and was a member of Sherman County SWCD board. In 1985, Roland was recognized as Soil Conservationist of the Year by both Sherman County and the State of Oregon; fitting of a man who respected farmland and the life it provided his family.
Roland and Sharon moved from their ranch to Moro in 2008 and enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. In his later years, Roland faced health challenges and lived with Parkinson's Disease for over a decade. Although health complications made life more difficult, he remained strong and never lost his love of laughter, meeting new people, learning new things and sharing stories of his life with family.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, four children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; Jon, (wife Julie and children Amanda, Maggie and Annie), David, (children Brandi, Cody and Chelsi and grandchildren Keilani, Leiana and Kailynn) Nancy, (husband Larry and children Haylee and Addison), Robert, (children Mitchel, his wife Emily, and Brian); sister Shirley Latham; stepbrothers Gary, Rex and Lee Simantel; cousin Phyllis Schwesow. 1010 On June 7, 1947, Arthur Raymond Perrine Sr. was born in the family home in Parkman, OH, to Marvin and Beulah (Seal) Perrine. Having seven older siblings with the last in line nine years older, Arthur was a surprise and was doted on by the older siblings and cousins. Arthur loved going "back home" to Gassaway, WV, where his parents were born and raised.

At an early age he contracted polio and had to be in a body cast from the waist down. Little Arthur persevered and became a good athlete as a young man, playing basketball and baseball. In the 1960's, the Cleveland Browns trained at Hiram College. Art loved to go watch the greats of the 50's and 60's, meeting Hall of Famer Jim Brown. Arthur has always been an avid Cleveland Sports fan, Browns, Cavaliers, and as he said they will always be the Indians, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Arthur met Mildred Ellison, married, and started a family young. They had four children, Arthur Jr. ("Sonny") , Janet, Marvin, and Cindy. The family settled in Nelson, Ohio in their home Arthur and his brother, Lance built. Arthur had several jobs and eventually retired from Harbison Walker International in Windham, Ohio where he was a talented machinist. His specialized talents saved the company many times from scrapping valuable machines by making obscure parts. For several years he was the President of the local 8565-03 United Steelworkers International Union. Arthur and Mildred divorced, and he eventually met Diana Campbell. They married and had Amanda. He loved to follow and help with Amanda's travel softball. Diana and Art divorced also. However, he and his children's mothers have kept close relationships, enjoying time together with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. After retirement he enjoyed spending his summers camping at Leisure Lake in Diamond, OH, with his close friend Mickey Christopher, and his daughter's camp in Pleasantville, PA, where he enjoyed riding ATVs. Arthur was a Lifetime member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles #2705, holding various offices, and the handyman. He enjoyed bringing his grandchildren to the holiday parties.

He leaves behind his beloved children Arthur (Annette), Janet (Tom), Cindy, Amanda (Matt) and daughter-in-law Ruth. Grandchildren, Kari, Rachel, Desi, Jessica, Justin, Lindsay, Christopher, Emily, Stephenie, Trenton, Marlayna, Logan, Megan, Mackenzie, Kolby, Julie, and Colin, great-grandchildren Raven, Felicia, Levi, Jayden, Finn, Jameson, Jennings, Caelum, Liam, and Daxtan, and his sister-in-law Mary Perrine.

Arthur was preceded in death by his son Marvin, grandson Mason, grandson-in-law, Derek Speicher, parents, and siblings Irene, Lorraine, Max, Roy, Dacie, Bud and Lance. He recently lost his "favorite child" Sadie his four-legged companion.
