| 1201 | Services will be held honoring the life of Doris Carpenter who passed unexpectedly at age 65 on the morning of Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Cleveland Clinic due to complications of Leukemia. Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Lane Funeral Home located at 5797 Mahoning Ave. Youngstown, Ohio from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Lane Funeral Home with viewing starting from noon and funeral services starting at 1pm followed by a commitment ceremony at Green Haven Cemetery. Doris was born and raised in Lake Milton, Ohio daughter of Caroline and William Braham. She was a recently retired IV & Pharmacy Tech from Akron Children’s Hospital. Doris was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma to her 5 grandchildren. Doris had a zest for experiencing life and spending time with her family. She was constant, loyal and caring to all of those who were lucky to be loved by her. She was the devoted wife of 45 years to Donald Carpenter of Lake Milton, OH, loving mother of Christy Anderson and son-in-law George Anderson and proud grandmother to their 3 boys Christian, Declan and Ian of New Middleton, OH, and Donald Joseph Carpenter and daughter-in-law Jeana Carpenter and proud grandmother to their 2 daughters Andi and Avianna of Mineral Ridge, OH. She was born Oct. 27, 1947, in Richwood, to the late Dorr Hosey and Juanita Sally Hosey. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Sharon was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Laird R. | 1203 | She was born to Dennis Lee and Almarinda McCourt. Opal was employed as an inspector at Dolly Madison's pickle factory for 25-plus years before retiring. She was a "lucky" lady, as she had the opportunity to travel on many occasions to places like Hawaii, Las Vegas and West Virginia. She enjoyed reading and a friendly game of cards with those she loved. She is survived by her daughters, Norma (Jerry) Pearce of Webster Springs, Pat (Ray) DeFoor, Carolyn "Sue" Borntrager and Rosemary Tiffner, all of Cambridge; son, Robert (Coleen) Tiffner of Zanesville; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Virginia McCourt of Webster Springs and Vesta Tiffner of Pickens, W.Va. She was born December 11, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late George and Thelma Perkins Bragg. She was a graduate of Cowen High School and a homemaker. Sheila enjoyed camping, fishing, and shopping. She loved being a wife, mother but her favorite thing was being a grandma. She loved her family fiercely. After spending time with Sheila, you left happy, hopeful, and warm from the love she gave. Surviving is her loving husband, Alfred W. Perrine, son, Charles William Perrine, siblings, Patricia Selman, David Bragg, Ann Hawkins, Anita Armentrout, Jim Bragg, Debbie Stanley, Rick Bragg, and John Paul Bragg and 2 lovely grandchildren, Sarah Perrine and Ashley Weekly. | 1205 | SHERANDO-Robin Dale Painter Rodriguez, 29, of Route 2, Box 385, Stuarts Draft, died Monday evening (March 9, 1992) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born June 13, 1962, in Waynesboro, a daughter of Charlotte Lowe Painter and the late Eddie Mack Painter. She was a member of Sherando United Methodist Church and worked at the Super 8 Motel in Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her father on Feb. 2, 1988; and her brother, Jeffrey Todd Painter, on Aug. 29, 1990. Survivors include her husband, Jose Rodriguez; a son, Dustin Jeffrey Rodriguez at home; her mother, Charlotte L. Painter of Sherando; maternal grandmother, Mrs. John H. (Mary) Lowe of Stuarts Draft; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Wilber (Louise) Carter of Chester; and a number of aunts and uncles. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Sherando United Methodist Church by the Revs. John M. Brackin and Charles R. Ramsey with burial in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mark Patterson, Dickie Patterson, Raymond Berry, Eddie Cool, Ray Lee Wade and Wayne Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service. She was retired from Honda of America and was active as a Honda volunteer. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Davison Nevers. Survivors include her husband; son; daughter; sister; and several nieces and nephews. "Sherry" (Mahan) Lee, 69, of Columbus, Ohio (originally of St. Paris), passed away after a brief illness at 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, in Huber Heights, Ohio surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 3, 1945, in Piqua, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Marcella (Massie) Mahan. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Walter and Elva (Slagle) Massie and Harley and Ola (Bodey) Mahan. After graduating from Graham High School in 1963 Sherry attended the Stenotype Institute of Jacksonville, FL and went on to obtain her Registered Professional Reporter Designation. Upon returning to Ohio, Sherry settled in to the German Village community of Columbus, Ohio, operated her own business as a court reporter for numerous lawyers and law firms for more than 30 years before retiring and going to work for the Columbus Museum of Art for 11 years. Sherry enjoyed spending time with co-workers, colleagues, friends and family. She enjoyed exercising and walking. She was known for her love of art, sense of style, and her strong spirit and independence. She most enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her Aunt Mary, and was very grateful for all of her great nieces and nephews who were able to come visit and share stories with her. Special thanks to the Massie family, friends and care givers for their love and support to Sherry. She expressed her appreciation many times. | 1209 | Shirley Ann (Gregory) McCourt, 77, of Webster Springs passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Born June 16, 1944 in Buckhannon, she was the daughter of the late Denver and Jesse (Eisenhart) Gregory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Miller; grandson, Jeremy McCourt; and sister, Donna Cool. Shirley was an amazing homemaker and enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Thurman McCourt; son, Kevin McCourt of TN; daughter, Michelle Bell and her husband, Jeff of Upperglade; grandchildren: Beth Ann McCourt, Cloe McCourt, Wyatt Hosey, Connor Bell, and Erika Bell; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. | 1210 | Shirley Ann Wine, age 73 of Craigsville, WV gained her angel wings and left this earthly world on Sunday June 14, 2020 after long brave and heroic battles with several extensive health issues that made her a true HERO. She was an individual who found the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. Her quality of life and strength lived with tenderness is an unbeatable combination, why she was often referred to as a "walking medical wonder." Shirley was born on December 04, 1946 in Butler, PA to the late Jesse ",James" Skidmore of Webster Springs, and the late Ruby Levinoun Thompson of Craigsville, WV. She married the love of her life, Paul Edwin Wine, in September of 1965, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2010. She is also preceded in death by one Sister, Frankie Skeens Cochran from Webster Springs. After raising her family, Shirley at the age of 42 went on to achieve her life long dream of furthering her education to become a teacher. She graduated with Magna Cum Lauda honors from Glenville State College in May of 1993. She obtained a (K-12) double major in Social Studies and Business Principles plus a certificate in English earning her a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree. She was a member of Lambda Lambda Lambda sorority. Although her health kept her from working outside the home, she was determined it didn't stop her from sharing her love of knowledge and love of education. She always said, "You are never too old to learn!" Shirley was also a woman of several different talents that never ceased to amaze all who knew her. Her proudest and most cherished accomplishments were her children and grandchildren. She constantly reminded everyone they are her true legacies! She never met a stranger and all who entered her life and home became family and friends. She is survived by her Son, William "Eddie" Wine and wife Christy of Summersville, WV; a daughter, Paula A Lilly and husband, Edward of O'Fallen, IL; her youngest Daughter, Levinoun "Janie" Wine Gray at home in Craigsville, WV; Son-in-law, Michael E Gray of Clarksburg, WV; Son/Grandson Jason-Paul Edwin Wine (JP) at home in Craigsvffle, WV; adopted Son/Nephew Timothy H (Timmy) Wine, of OH; and adopted Son/Nephew Scott Wine, of OH. She was a wonderful loving Mamaw who cherished her six grandchildren, Ciera N. Wine, Kalyssa T. Wine, "JP" Jason-Paul Wine, Felicia D'Ann Gray, Karisala K. Lilly, and Katealia K. Lilly. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul "Bub" Thompson Jr. of Craigsville, WV; John A. Thompson of Craigsville, WV; and Jesse Skidmore,(Kim) of Webster Springs, WV; along with her Sisters, Karen Ramsey, (Richard) of Craigsville, WV; Jeannie Isolato, (Joseph) of Silver Springs, MD; and several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and many more she called family. She married Ronald Trump, later they divorced. Shirley was a seamstress at Hart, Schaffner, & Marx in Rochester for 25 years. She was a graduate of Culver High School with the class of 1962. | 1213 | Sidney Brooks Barton Dies of Heart Attack Sidney Brooks Barton, 53, salesman for the Charleston Printing Co., died of a heart attack yesterday morning at his home. He had been confined to his home for a week by a severe cold but had not suffered a heart ailment. Mr. Barton, of 1509 Ravina Rd., had been employed by the printing company for 10 years. He was a native of Charleston and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sampson Barton and had lived in the city all his life. Mr. Barton was an active member of its board of stewards and trustees and president of the Morrison Bible class Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Georgianna Barton: a daughter, Shirley Ann at home; two sons, Sidney jr. of Logan and Thomas Morgan Barton of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Grimm and Mrs. Frank Ferguson, both of Charleston; two brothers, Dr. G. | 1214 | SIDNEY — Robert C. "Pops" Heber, 78, of Sidney, passed away, Aug. 31, 2017, at 2:45 p.m., in the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. Born April 26, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Charles and Mildred (Delmatter) Heber. He married Linda L. Bodey, Oct. 8, 1961, and she survives. Together they raised four children, three of whom survive: Charles (Karen) Heber, of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael (Darlene) Heber, of Piqua, and Diana (Kevin Lambert) Heber, of Piqua. He was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren, Melody (Ron) Mulkey, Chase (Alexa Liffick) Heber, Mitchell (Jessica) Baker, Weston (Katie) Baker; and three great-grandchildren, Jake and Jessup Mulkey and Bentley Heber. In addition to his parents, a son, Patrick Heber, and a sister, Joan McKinnion, preceded him in death. Robert was a 1958 graduate of Carrick High School in Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962. He was formerly employed by Piqua Engineering. Robert attended the Upper Valley Community Church. He enjoyed collecting Lionel trains and traveling. Survived by her husband Patrick J. of 57 years, whom she married December 12, 1959; daughters, Karen Venesky and husband, Wade; and Linda Audley; four grandchildren, Patrick and Calvin Venesky; Andrew and Anna Audley; sisters, Carol Lewis, and husband Evan; Mary Greene, and husband, Randall; Mona Simpson; and Marty Zapf, and husband, Mike; brothers-in-law, Paul Sloan and wife, Betty; Robert Sloan, and wife, Joan; sisters-in-law, Judy Williams; Florence Eberhart, and husband, Dan. Norma Jean graduated from high school in 1958 and went to Washington, D.C. where she worked for AT&T in management. In 1964 she and her husband bought PJs Tavern in Cresson. Norma continued to work for AT&T in Altoona for three years. She left AT&T to become a fulltime partner working at the tavern while spending more time raising her two daughters. Norma enjoyed bowling and playing tennis with her many friends. For 25 years she and her friends would cross country ski from Blue Knob to PJs Tavern raising over $100,000 for the Veterans Park in Cresson. Norma and her four sisters loved getting together, they went on over 15 cruises; this was one of her greatest joys in life. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; her true passion was spending time with her family. At Normas request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11 a.m., St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Fr. Matthew Reese, celebrant. | 1227 | ST. PARIS - Marcella R. Mahan, 91, of St. Paris, passed away at 9:40 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, in Hearth and Home of Urbana. Born on April 7, 1922, in South Charleston, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Elva (Slagle) Massie. She married Roger Jason Mahan on April 25, 1943, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1988. Mrs. Mahan is survived by two children, David (Marjorie) Mahan, of St. Paris, and Sheryl Lee, of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jamey (Karen) Mahan, of St. Paris, and Kristy (Mark) Lightner, of Huber Heights; and five great-grandchildren, Derek, Lindsey and Logan Mahan, and Josh and Hayley Lightner. She is also survived by four sisters, Agnes Lemmon, Eleanora Schneider, Rosella Lee and Mary Lee; and two brothers, Jerry (Gloria) Massie and Roger (Sandy) Massie; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Putnam, and two brothers, Raymond and Francis Massie. Mrs. Mahan was a graduate of Westville High School and attended Bowling Green University. She loved playing basketball and was proud to play on the high school and college teams. She retired from Hirchfeld Agri Service in Degraff, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Paris. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, St. Paris with the Rev. Dr. James VanZile and the Rev. Paul Mitchell presiding. | 1235 | Staunton - William Herman "Bill" Vandevander, 80, went to his Heavenly Home Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Vandevander was born on March 31, 1938 in Frank, West Virginia, son of the late Woodrow and Beatrice (Shifflet) Vandevander. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, the late George and Ethel Vandevander in Durbin, West Virginia. Mr. Vandevander was a graduate of Green Bank High School. He received his Associates Degree from Potomac State and earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Madison College (JMU) in Harrisonburg. He also attended the University of Virginia as he pursued a Ph.D. In 1958, he married Rita Williams and moved to Craigsville, Virginia where he was a teacher and Principal of Craigsville Elementary for 30 years. Afterward he was the Director of the Adult Learning Center in Fishersville. Mr. Vandevander enjoyed going to auctions, collecting coins, antiques, and fishing. He was a "people person" with a generous spirit and genuine love for others. His family was always of the utmost importance. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita (Williams) Vandevander; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Alice "Sissy" Vandevander of Weyers Cave; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Philip Rathburn of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Barb Vandevander of St. Paul, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Zachary Vandevander (and wife, Stefanie) of Weyers Cave; Stephanie McCray (and husband, Leland) of Staunton; Jessica Vandevander of Olympia, Washington; and Ryan Rathburn (and wife, Ashley) of Lyndhurst; and five great-grandchildren, Lani Goggin, Peyton McCray, Finley McCray, Sydney Vandevander, and Arlo McCray. Born in West Virginia and venturing west from Ohio to California in 1957, she worked for AT&T, in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. She retired in 1986 after almost 30 years of service as a telecommunications operator. She and Ward retired to Rio Rancho in 1988 and continued to enjoy traveling, fishing, golf, and bowling. Always game and up for anything well into her 70's, she could be found anywhere from sailing above in a hot air balloon, to paddling a canoe on Lake Tahoe, and dragging huge rocks home from various trips and adventures. She enjoyed cooking,and gardening and loved going to church, singing hymns and reading her Bible. Funny, feisty, loyal and loving, her passion was people and her concern and care for even those she'd just met was evidenced when speaking with her. She gave tirelessly of herself to anyone who seemed to need help and touched the lives of all who knew her. Determined and stubborn, strong of spirit, body and soul, she courageously fought several serious bouts and forms of cancer but she could not sustain her fight against Alzheimer's. She was born in Los Angeles and lived with her mother after her parents separated. Her father John Crites was born on July 21, 1926, in Sutton, WV, son of the late Beverly W. Crites and Beulah Mae Keener Mooter. Mr. Crites was in the U.S. Army where he served World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars. Taunya welcomed her daughter Sabrina Littleton in November of 1990. Taunya lived her life as a dedicated nurse and caregiver until she was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in December of 2013. | 1247 | Teresa Ann Lawson, 64, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her family on October 28th, 2020 after coming home on hospice from her fight with West Nile Neuroinvasive disease. Teresa was a very proud mother and grandmother (Mamaw to all her grandchildren) to her son and her eleven grandchildren, and she dedicated and lived her life for each and every one of them. Teresa made sure to take her grandson Kalevi to each of his soccer games and practices since he was five years old, and she never missed a single one of them until she became ill. She was involved in each of her grandchildren's lives and she made all of them feel loved, included, and happy each and every day. For her grandchildren, there was no greater cheerleader for their accomplishments than their Mamaw. She will live on in their hearts and through each of them as they grow, through memories and the actions that they take because of the lessons and values she taught them. They will love bigger and live life fuller due to their Mamaw. She will be greatly missed and loved beyond measure. For most of her life, and just shy of making 40 years, she worked at Halliburton Energy Services in Carrollton, Texas. Teresa made lasting relationships with many co-workers over the years and touched many around her with her dedication and her spirit. She enjoyed her time there and the relationships she made through work. She was a dedicated and loyal employee over the years and through her tenure at Halliburton. Teresa is survived by her son, Kenneth Michael Lawson II (Flower Mound, Texas) and daughter-in-law Megan Lawson (Flower Mound, Texas); her longtime partner and companion, Ronnie Robbins (Dallas, Texas); sister Cathie Rhodes and her husband James (Sweetwater, Texas); brother Warren Frysinger Jr. and his wife Kathryn (Coppell, Texas); and her grandchildren Briana Lawson (Lewisville, Texas), Kenna Stow (Flower Mound, Texas), Logan Stow (Flower Mound, Texas), Branden Lawson (Flower Mound, TX), Ian Stow (Flower Mound, Texas), Nathaniel Lawson (Flower Mound, Texas), Jacob Lawson (Flower Mound, Texas), Kalevi Lawson (Flower Mound, Texas), Nikolas Lawson (Flower Mound, Texas) and Aava Lawson (Flower Mound, Texas). She is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family who loved and cherished her. Teresa was preceded in death by her Mother, Dorothy Ida-Marie Cole, Father, Warren Frysinger, sister Joyce Smith, sister Eileen Jo Joshlin, and her grandson Noah Lawson. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 13th, 2020 from 6:00-8:00pm at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas. | 1248 | Terrance Willis, 73, passed away on September 23, 2021, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. He was born on January 12, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio a son of the late Arnold W. Willis and Helena Fay McCourt. Terry worked for several years for Ford Motor Company in Ohio. In 2013, he became a resident at Cortland Acres where he also became an unofficial employee, always helping out the staff and residents. Terry enjoyed watching movies, fishing and going for walks. He loved spending time with his neighbors and with those that he considered his family, but most of all he looked forward to his Friday evening outings for ice cream. He is survived by a daughter Wendy Smith and husband David of Elkins, WV; three grandchildren, David Jr. and companion Lindsey, Shawn and companion Krista and Stephen; six great grandchildren, Braelynn, Shawn Jr., LinLeigh, Daeson, JohnDavid and Landon; three special friends, Cindy Helmick, Trish Anderson and their families and Bob Shaffer. A funeral will be held with Rev. James Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thomas, WV.
