She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Feeney, Sr,; daughters, Ruth Feeney Mills and Alice Marie Feeney; son, Harold Lewis Feeney; three brothers and three sisters.

She was a press operator for Wauseon Manufacturing, Wauseon, Ohio. She was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of Webster Springs for the past 16 years. She enjoyed quilting and working puzzles. She enjoyed watching deer, snow and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Sue (LeRoy) Green of Webster Springs and Cora (Bruce) Hamrick of Mooresville, N.C.; sons, John (Madalene) Feeney of Greenville, Tenn., William Feeney of Orlando, Fla., and Robert (Deborah) Feeney of Hollywood, Fla; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil (Lou) Fletcher of Camden-on-Gauley, Arden (Geniece) Fletcher of Cowen and Bob Fletcher of Greenville, Miss.; sisters, Virginia Rose of Camden-on-Gauley and Alma Plummer and Agnes Holcomb, both of Cowen; sister-in-law, Margaret Feeney Davoll of Perrysburg, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Thearl L. Clutter

Thearl L. Clutter, 80, of Gassaway went home to with the Lord on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born May 31, 1934 in Webster County a son of the late Virgil and Virginia Mae Fisher Clutter.

He was an oil field worker for many years.

He is survived by wife, Alice Marie Clutter; brothers, Billy (Ima Jean) of Gassaway, Robert (Marie) of Summersville, Rondal (Mary Ann) of Canton, OH, Donal (Sharon) of Normantown; sisters, Mallie Gillespie of Keymar, MD, Nellie (Everett) Bice of Canton, OH, Desylvia (James) Harper of Burnsville, and Sharon Collins of Gassaway; stepsons, Gary, Larry, and William Freeman.

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Lou Brady Clutter; son, Kelly Joe Clutter; brother, John Clutter; sister-in-law, Lucille Clutter.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home,

Gassaway with Pastor Jason Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Chapel.

Visitation will be two hours prior to service.

Shirley Elizabeth Rowan

Shirley Elizabeth Rowan, 78, of Sutton, WV died January 11, 2017 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, WV.

She was born October 8, 1938 in Sutton, WV to the late Alpha and Helen (Detamore) Davis. Also, preceding her in death is her husband Glen Rowan, sisters, Sue Davis, Hilda Crites, Glenda Cottrill, and Della Rowan, and brother Robert Davis.

Shirley was an Avon Representative.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and son-in-law Ramona and Richard (Rick) Jenkins of Sutton, WV, sister Sharon Healy of Kiser, WV, grandchildren Jeremy White and fiancé Amber of Sutton, Carrie Falks and husband Trevor of Wheeling, WV, two great grandchildren that were the light of her life, Taviah Petry and Lucus Falks, and several nieces and nephews.

By request her body will be cremated and there will be services at a later date.

Donald Philip "Phil" Vonderau Jr., age 68, passed away at his residence in Pierce, Texas on Friday, July 4, 2014, following a struggle with cancer.

Phil was born on March 23, 1946 in Velasco, Texas to Donald Philip Vonderau Sr. and Bertha Rose Jurek Vonderau. Phil and his two brothers were raised in Wharton County. He graduated in 1964 from Wharton High School and later attended Wharton Junior College.

Phil went on to serve our country in the United States Navy, earning his Honorable Discharge on June 30, 1972. Shortly after being discharged, Phil married Velda Vaughn on November 23, 1973 in El Campo, Texas.

Phil began his work in the family business, Wharton Steam Laundry, but then spent 30+ years as salesman for Von Wil Ford in Wharton, and VonDerAu Ford in EL Campo before retiring. As a salesman, he never met a stranger and was known for helping anyone he came in contact with. He truly relished the many friendships he made along the way. When not at work, Phil spent his time fishing the coastal waters of Matagorda, reading books, being with friends and family, but most of all, spending time with his loving wife Velda, his son Trey, and his granddaughter Stella. Phil is survived by his wife of 40 loving years, Velda Vonderau, of Pierce, son, Donald Philip "Trey" Vonderau III of Rosenberg, mother, Bertha Vonderau of Wharton, brother, John Miska and wife, Patricia, of Wharton, and his precious granddaughter, Stella Vonderau of Rosenberg. Along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Phil is preceded in death by his father, Donald Philip Vonderau Sr., and his brother, Marty Scott Vonderau.

Following cremation, a memorial service for Phil will be held at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home.

Brenda Kay Rollyson, 62, of Frametown passed away March 28, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.



She was born September 17, 1954 in Webster County a daughter of the late Doyle and Ocie Gathel Sawyers Barnette.



Brenda was a homemaker and caregiver. She had worked for the Gassaway Public Library. She enjoyed Gardening, canning and fishing. She dearly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.



She was a member of the Hope Baptist Church, Frametown.



She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jimmie Rollyson; children, Patty Myers (John) of Sutton, Arlene Jordan (Calvin) of Lucasville, OH, Jessica Helmick (Butch) of Frametown and Jason Rollyson (Heather Roberts) of Frametown; grandchildren, Katlyn Jordan and Charlie Jordan both of Lucasville, OH, Lindsay Myers (fiancé, Matt Ware), Emily Myers, Cassie Myers and Macy Myers all of Sutton, Bradley Myers and Brittany Myers both of Weston, Hannah Given of Frametown, Shawn Helmick of Servia, Gary Helmick of Wallback, Stephanie Rollyson of Chloe, Zack Roberts, Makayla Roberts and Hanna Roberts all of Ivydale; great grandchildren, Savana Myers, Bailey Butcher, Cole Butcher, Chance Alexander, Brooklynn Helmick Makenna Helmick and Shawn Micheal Calvin Helmick; brothers, Hillis Gary McCourt, Doyle Larry McCourt and Donald Leroy Barnette all of Birch River; sisters, Sharlene Barnette of Frametown and Juanita Cunningham of Birch River; several nieces and nephews.



Service was at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with the Rev. Rich Demastus officiating. Interment was in the Doyle Barnette Memorial Cemetery, Boggs.

Visitation will be two hours prior to service at the funeral home.

357 Brenda Louise Reed, 55, of Little Hocking Ohio, passed into the loving arms of our Lord, on March 29th, 2021, at her home.

Brenda was born June 14th, 1965 in Columbus, Ohio at US Air Force Hospital, Lockbourne Air Force Base. She graduated in 1983 from Warren High School.

Brenda served in the United States Air Force, from 1991 to 1995, in Vehicle Operations 1 Transportation Squadron, Langley AFB, VA.

Brenda is survived by her son, Brandon M. Hall, of Ohio, stepdaughter Mercedes Alexander, of Tennessee and stepson Steve Alexander, of Virginia. Grand daughter Maycie Hall, of Belpre and many children who called her Grandma and she loved like her own, her mother, whom she adored, Terri Carpenter, of Little Hocking, one brother, Joe Hall (Donna), of Belpre, sisters, Lisa Huck (Mark), of Waterford, Misty Ratliff (John), of NC, and Melanie (Jimmy) Obrien, of TX, many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, special bonus parents, Teresa Hall and Charley and Pam Stewart and her faithful Fur baby Maggie.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry "Baldy" Hall, in 2008, stepfather Max Carpenter, in 2017 and her grandparents.

Brenda loved her family and friends with her whole heart. She loved riding motorcycles and was looking forward to living on the river. Her passion had become her service to those in recovery, as well as her own. Her love for her fellows was made very apparent within her program of Heroin Anonymous. She is remembered by her home group mates as dependable, honest and sincere. She spread love to everyone that graced the rooms, made them feel at home and checked in with people daily to say "I love you" and that "You matter". Even when struggling and at her worst, she was always thinking of her Recovery Community. Brenda often led her meetings with her home group, We Are Not Saints, of Heroin Anonymous. She would want anyone reading this who is struggling with this disease to know that they are important, their lives matter and there is help out there.

359 BUMP Hildred U. Bump, age 96, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital. She was the wonderful mother of Bonnie Armstrong and is also survived by Pat and Skip Gebhart and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by husband Allen Bump, parents Edwin and Leona Adams, son-in-law Edward Armstrong, sister Louise (Charles) Zanner and brother Cecil Adams. Hildred attended the Ohio State University as well as Otterbein College where she was the piano accompanist for the choir. She was a teacher in a one room school. Very artistic, Hildred won many blue ribbons for her arrangements in the African Violet Show. She was also a part of the Columbus African Violet Society of which she was President for two years, the O.S.U. African Violet Club, and National African Violet Society. Also, she was involved in Kappa Phi Mother's Club, O.S.U. Mother's Club and a longtime member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Rachel Circle. Hildred loved gardening, and hat making. She always had a sweet disposition that made her so very lovable. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2005 at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. 361 BURLEY H. FRIEND SR.

Services for Burley H. Friend Sr., a retired machinist, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.

Friend, a former Gasport resident, died Wednesday (Nov. 15, 2000) in Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was 91.

Born in Frametown, W.Va., he worked as a watch repairman in Sutton, W.Va., for 25 years before moving to Gasport in 1963. He worked as a machinist at Lobbee Pump in Gasport for 29 years, retiring in 1979.

His wife, Geneva Carpenter Friend, died in 1991.

He is survived by two sons, Burley H. Jr. of Lockport and Ernest P. of Gasport; two daughters, Norma J. Barnett of Washington Court, Ohio, and Velma J. of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Forest of Sutton and Aubert of Charleston, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

362 Burnette M. Hegenderfer Nicol, 84, of Marysville died Tuesday, Jan. 6,
2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
She was a homemaker and retired from the Scotts Co. in 1982 as an office
and accounting clerk. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church
where she participated in the morning Bible study and was a member of
Women of the ELCA. A former longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church,
she was involved in various women's activities and helped with food
preparation for the church school. From 1938 to 1947 she worked at
Nestle's as a payroll clerk. She was known for her good cooking,
especially Christmas cookies, rhubarb pie, potato salad and deviled
eggs. She enjoyed reading and traveling.
She was born July 26, 1919, in Darby Township to the late Eric and Eva
Ruhl Hegenderfer. She was baptized Aug. 10, 1919, at St. John's Lutheran
Church by the Rev. Kuechle and was confirmed Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933,
at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. E.J. Goedeking.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Herbert; sisters, Florence Geer,
Tessa Parr, Elsie Van Hoose and Irene Hegenderfer; and brothers, Floyd
and Gilbert Hegenderfer. She was predeceased in 1959 by her husband,
Herbert J. Nicol and in 1945 by her husband, Richard Elsbree who was
killed in action in Okinawa.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy L. Nicol of Marysville; two sons,
Michael (Diane) Nicol of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Daniel (Diane) Nicol of
Louisville, Ohio; granddaughters, Monica, Mandi, Danielle and Carly
Nicol; a brother-in-law, Kermit Nicol of Marysville; and numerous
nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First English
Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carl A. Roepcke will officiate and burial will
be at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Thursday at the Underwood Funeral Home.

364 Candi Sue Foreman

Miss Candi Sue Foreman, 8, Tucson, Ariz., a former resident of Van Wert, O., and great-granddaughter of a former Wren, O., resident, died Tuesday morning at her residence. She had been ill one month.

She was born in Van Wert on June 19, 1967, the daughter of Terry L. and Pamela Lee Wright-Foreman.

Survivors include the father of Van Wert and her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. James Beegle, Tucson.

Also surviving are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wright, Tucson; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Foreman, Van Wert; the great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Foreman, Van Wert, and the great-grandmother, Mrs. Helen Clifton, Van Wert, a former resident of Wren.

365 Carl Gene Bosley, 82, of Flatwoods passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at a CAMC hospital in Charleston.

Gene was born March 29, 1927, in Braxton County and was a son of the late Osey G and Blanch Keener Bosley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a precious grandson, Brian Hedrick of Williamsburg; and three brothers, Charles Bosley of Beckley, Ralph Bosley of Whitesville and Eugene Brady of Gassaway.

Gene was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His fondest memories were of camping and fishing trips with his grandsons.

He worked for 41 years as an engineer for B&amp;B, B&amp;O and CSX railroad companies. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the VFW. He attended and was a member of Upper Glade Presbyterian Church.

Gene was also a member of the Cowen Rebekah Lodge 105. He was the Past Grand of Cowen Lodge 176, as well as the Past District Grand Master of District 9 of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia. He was also a member of Red. Oak Encampment 128 and was the Past Chief Patriot.

Gene is survived by his loving companion, Wanda Arnold of Cowen; daughters and their husbands, Pam and Max Jay Lockard of Flatwoods, Debbie and Jesse Pope of Asbury and Jeannie and Joe Grissom of Newalla, OK. Also surviving are five grandsons and their wives, Heath and Mindy Lockard of Salisbury, NC, Chad and Jamie Lockard of Flatwoods, Jason Hedrick of Williamsburg, Jon and Jessica Brandon of Oklahoma and Mike and Stacy Brandon of Oklahoma. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Payton and Baylea Lockard, Matthew Hedrick, and Dillon, Dalton, Jason, Amanda and Aaron Brandon; and one sister-in-law, Ina Bosley of Beckley.

A celebration of Gene's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Stockert-Gibson-Sizemore Funeral Home, Flatwoods, with the Rev Peter Vail and the Rev Jesse Pope officiating. Burial will be in Braxton County Cemetery, near Sutton.

Carl V. Bodey, 92, formerly of Cable died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at
The Gables at Green Pastures.
He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, was a member of
Harmony Lodge #8 F&amp;AM and was a former president of Perpetual Federal
Savings and Loan in Urbana.
He was born July 31, 1910, in Champaign County to the late Carl and
Minnie Ammon Bodey Sr. and was predeceased by a son, Tyson Bodey in
1990; three sisters, Ilo Cotrell, Blanche Vorpe and Ruth McGuire; a
brother, Forrest Counts; and his wives, Edith Carrick Bodey in 1964 and
Marie Baham Bodey in 1998.
He is survived by a son, Paul (Paula) Bodey of Marysville; two
grandchildren, Ben and Tyson Bodey of Marysville; stepchildren, Margaret
and Russ Markin of Mingo, Rick and Jeannie Baham of West Liberty and
Linda and Eli Matthews of Naples, Fla.; and several step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the
Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, where friends
may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the

Services for Oscar Lee Miles, 68, who died Wednesday in a local hospital, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Denton Funeral Home Chapel.

Jerry Roberts of Sunset Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Noble Slusher, Charles Allen, Paul Corder, Orville Parker, Dewey Lambert and Robert Stade.

Miles had lived here for 17 years and had worked for Amax Chemical Corp. before retiring in 1971. He was a member of Local 181 Steelworkers Union, United Mine Workers in West Virginia.

Miles was born in Webster County, W.Va., and moved here from Webster Springs, W.Va.

Survivors include two sons, Ray L., Carlsbad, and Roger Allen, El Paso; three daughters, Mrs. Dennis Hall, Carlsbad, Mrs. Robert Shoup, Pharr, Tex., and Mrs. Elden Stribling, Edom, Tex.; two brothers, Ray Miles, Webster Springs, and Pat Miles, St. Johns, Ariz., and six grandchildren.

368 Carol E. Carpenter, 79, of Beloit loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother earned her wings on May 14, 2020. Carol was born to the late Curtis and Evelyn (Fontain) Yarian on February 2, 1941 in Alliance, Ohio.

Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years Burl Carpenter whom she married August 1, 1959; daughters Vicki Bailey (Clifford Scott) and Leigh (Kevin) Hurford; grandchildren Heather (Chad) Johnson, Amy (Troy) Adams, Jerrid (Melinda) Bailey, Kimberly Parker, Kayla (Nate) Hall and Joshua Hurford; great grandchildren Luke and Lilly Johnson, Trent, Austin, and Aubree Adams, Maddie, Allie and Jake Bailey, Blake, Bailey, Bryce, Myles and Maizy Parker, and Jourdyn Hall due to arrive in November. She is also survived by a large family and many close friends who she loved dearly. Besides her parents Carol was preceded in death by brothers Paul and Dwight Yarian, father and mother in-law Floyd and Sharlet Carpenter and a son-in-law Jerry Bailey.

Carol was a 1959 graduate of Alliance High School and attended Malone College. She had a wide array of careers and hobbies including cake decorating and seamstress work. She will be sadly missed by many who called her "Lil Nana" and "Lil Carol."

369 Carol Jean Miles Shoup, 63, of Rio Communities died Wednesday,
Sept. 12, at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice in Albuquerque.

Shoup was born March 6, 1938, to Oscar L. Miles and Jessie J. Bender Miles in Bergoo, W. Va. She graduated from high school in Widen, W. Va.

In 1959, she married Robert "Bob" Shoup. They owned and operated their own business until retiring. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, cooking, needlepoint, and spending time with her family.

Her parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Shoup, of Belen; two brothers, Ray Miles of Carlsbad and Roger Miles of Albuquerque; and two sisters, Kathleen Stribling of Sulfur Spring, Texas, and Corliss Hall of New Iberia, La.

370 Carol Jean “Jeanie” Hayhurst Richardson May, 69, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at the Genesis Fairmont Campus Pierpont Center. She was born in Baisden, WV on September 2, 1945, the daughter of the late Donald Hayhurst and Effie Caroll Hayhurst.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Richardson, as well as her second husband, Joe Wesley May.

Jeanie was a retired Social Worker for D.H.H.R. in Charleston. She was a member of the Moose Club in Gassaway and in Charleston, enjoyed dancing and gardening, and loved traveling to Nags Head and to the Outer Banks.

Mrs. May is survived two daughters, Kelly Dawn Dean and her husband Shawn of Gassaway, WV and Jo Leigh Hines of Fairmont; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven Scott Richardson and her brother, Jerry Don Hayhurst.

The family requests memorial contribution be made in Jeanie's memory to the H.D.S.A. (Huntington's disease), 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, New York 10018.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. 371 Carol Marie Wheeler, 84, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at her daughter's residence, surrounded with love by her 3 children, and walked into the loving arms of her husband, who had been waiting for her.

Carol was born on Sunday, August 14, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio to Albert Carol and Zona Marie (Bensley) Stiffler. On May 23, 1959, she married Edward L. Wheeler. They were blessed to be married just shy of 61 years before Ed's passing on April 24, 2020.

She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church in Geneva, IN. Carol retired from CTS in Berne, IN after 35 years of service. She also kept herself busy, working at Wal-Mart in the cash office and the United Way of Adams County.

Carol was an affectionate wife, a loving mother, and an awesome grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, entertaining, playing cards and hanging out with her kids.

Carol and Ed enjoyed their winters in Florida, where they made many long-term friendships.

372 Caroline Baker Watts, 91, of Morgantown, West Virginia, died on December 7, 2018, in Dallas, Texas. Born Caroline Isabell Baker, on February 24, 1927, she was the second daughter of Howard Adam Baker and Bertha Keller Baker. Caroline was born in a log cabin in St. George, Tucker County, West Virginia.

Caroline graduated as valedictorian from Parsons High School, in Parsons, West Virginia in 1946. Her goal following graduation was to attend West Virginia University. However, knowing that she would have to work in order to attend WVU, she first attended Fairmont Business College for one year to obtain secretarial training. Caroline enrolled at WVU in August 1947 while working full time initially as a secretary for a local insurance agent, and thereafter at WVU Main Library and the WVU Office of the Registrar.

While attending WVU, Caroline met her husband to be, Royce J. Watts, a student WWII veteran in 1950, and they were married on September 3, 1950. Following their return from their honeymoon trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City, Royce was recalled to active duty and spent the next 12 months in Korea in a combat unit.

Caroline received her undergraduate degree in home economics and child development from WVU in 1954 with High Honors, and her masters degree in home economics and child development from WVU in 1957. After Royce accepted a position in West Virginia Governor Underwood's administration, she began her career as an educator in 1958. Caroline taught at Spring Hill Junior High in South Charleston, West Virginia and at Clay-Battelle High School in Monongalia County. After working for Hope Gas for several years, she returned to education at Morgantown High School, where she taught biology and trained student teachers for 22 years. Caroline was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators.

Caroline retired in 1989 to assist Royce in arranging conferences in connection with his work at WVU and the West Virginia Coal Mining Institute. In this role, she was able to travel throughout the United States, replacing her passion for teaching with a new passion for travel.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Adam and Bertha Keller Baker, her sister, Frances Baker (who died shortly after birth), her sister, Patricia Roy, and her husband, June Roy, of Morgantown, her brother, Howard Melvin Baker, and his wife, Emma Lee Baker, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, and her brother-in-law, Robert C. Hannon, of Lexington, North Carolina.

Caroline is survived by her husband of 68 years, Royce J. Watts, her son and daughter-in-law, R. J. Watts, II and Maureen W. Watts, of Dallas, Texas, her sister, Anna Hannon, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her sister, Beverly Harki, and her husband, David Harki, of Morgantown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown on January 4, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Caroline's life will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown on January 5, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Randall Flanagan officiating.

A burial service will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined by the staff of Arlington National Cemetery.

373 Caroline Mae Ropp, 80, of De Graff, died at 9:40 AM Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Green Hills Center, West Liberty.
She was born April 19, 1931, in Urbana, OH, a daughter of the late Charles Samuel and Thirza A. Bodey Stroud.

On April 22, 1955, she married Ralph Ropp, Jr. in Rosewood and he died January 18, 2008. She was also preceded in death by four Brothers; Paul S., John W., Russell C. and Lee Stroud.

Survivors include a Son; Richard (Lisa) Ropp of Bellefontaine, four Daughters; Sherry (Doug) Butler, Brenda (Rick) King, Valerie (Rick) Scott all of De Graff, and Crystal (Jim) Lee of Bellefontaine, fifteen Grand Children, twenty four Great Grand Children, and several Nieces and Nephews.

Caroline was a graduate of Rosewood High School and a retired employee of Copeland Corporation, Sidney. She was a member of Kennard Nazarene Church, Kennard and she and her husband owned and operated Ma &amp; Pa's Restaurant north of De Graff for many years.

The family will receive friends at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, De Graff on Fri., Oct. 28, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the funeral home, with Pastor Curtis Randolph officiating. Burial is in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.

Mrs. Shepherd was born in Lewisburg, WV on Sunday, Oct. 30, 1955 to the late Louis and Anna Jianniney Wright.

She was born December 14, 1963 in Braxton County to Aaron Cowger and Eva Jean Deel and spent the majority of her adult life in Webster County and attended Bergoo Baptist Church. She graduated from Webster County High School and NIT of Charleston. She was very involved in Breast Cancer Awareness and enjoyed fishing, electronics, and driving.

Catherine was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church, and the Altar and Rosary Society Circle 9 of the church. She enjoyed gardening, refurnishing furniture, quilting, and crocheting and was an avid reader.

381 Charles Edward Cutlip, 84, of Craigsville went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Summersville Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

Charles was born August 10, 1927 in Allingdale to the late Lester and Rahly Jones Cutlip. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Schindel Road, Craigsville. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

Charles was a member of the Masonic Lodge 107, Camden-on-Gauley, and was also a member of the Nicholas County Shriners Club. He retired with 40 years of employment with the railroad and 29 years of service with the military. He was also a carpenter and loved to build things. He also loved gardening, hunting, fishing and the outdoors, when his health permitted.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Cutlip, and his son, Michael Cutlip.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jessie Cutlip of Craigsville; one son, the Rev. Byron David Cutlip of Cross Lanes; two daughters, Debbie and her husband, Pastor Charles Stevens, of Craigsville and Ladonna and her husband, Sean Meadors, of Kingsland, Ga.; one sister, Bobbie Groves and her husband, Carl, of Craigsville; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was born in Sutton on January 13, 1926, the son of the late Teddy O. Gross and Georgia Hoover Gross. He grew up in Webster County and was employed as a brakeman for B&amp;O Railroad. He moved in Morgantown in the late 1960s to work for Consolidated Coal Company until his retirement. Charles was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy. Born February 20, 1979, at Charleston, he was a son of Steven and Constance Kendrick Amos of Craigsville.

He was a warehouse laborer.

Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Samantha McHenry Amos; one daughter, Carley Starr Amos of Fayetteville; one brother, Michael Amos of Summersville; one sister, Jessica Amos of Craigsville; paternal grandparents, Charles and Julia Amos of Cottle; paternal great-grandmother, Violet Amos of Ohio.

EYOTA, Minn. — Charles Robert Nickelsen, 80, of Eyota died Friday Aug. 10, 2007, at his home.

He was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Beaver to Ernest and Mary (Waby) Nickelsen.

He served in the Army from 1945 to 1947, stationed in Germany. He married LaVerne Brobst on

Nov. 21, 1949, in Eyota and has lived there since. LaVerne died March 9, 2005.

He worked as a milk hauler for Eyota Creamery, drove school bus for the Eyota School and as a

mechanic for Lovejoy service station in Eyota and Schultz Implement of Plainview.

Charles belonged to Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota and to the Eyota American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing, garage sales, playing cards and bingo.

Survivors include six children, Roger (Janet) Nickelsen of Stewartville, Cheryl Nickelsen of Rochester,

Cindy (Duane) Kahn of Minneiska, Ronald (friend Bonnie) of Valley City, N.D., Pamela (Tim) Gordon of

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jo Frum Utt, his first wife Marjorie L. Allman Utt, one aunt; Ella Broslawsky; four uncles; Albert Hosey; Clyde Hosey; Charlie Hosey and Bill Hosey, one infant daughter and family friend Kevin Beerbower.

In addition to his family great care was provided by compassionate caregivers.

Charles attended Washington Irving High School. He was employed with various companies as a welder and mechanic, the last being King Knob Coal Company and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He enlisted and proudly served as a Signalman Second Class in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 starting with the United States Naval Training Service in Great Lakes, IL, SCTC Miami, FL., NTS Norfolk, VA., the USS Melvin Nawman, and he served in the Pacific on the Destroyer Escort ISS Sloat. He was a member of the Harrison County VFW Post 573 and American Legion Post 13. He was also a master mason with a 51 year membership in Herman Lodge #6 A.F. &amp; A.M. and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

He enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, tinkering on cars and equipment, NASCAR, and family gatherings that included good food and good conversation. He enjoyed music and dancing. He attended car shows and had owned Hudson Hornets and a Hudson Terraplane.

Family and friends will be received at the Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Rt 98, Clarksburg, from 2-8PM Friday, where services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11:00AM; Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. HEISLER, Charles William passed peacefully into our Savior's loving arms on November 15, 2011. Chuck was born on February 20, 1925 in Springfield, the seccond son of Thomas Benson Heisler and Sarah Evelyn (Pence) Heisler. Like many of his generation, he same from humble beginnings and worked hard to achieve his place in life. Churck was a 1943 graduate of Springfield High School, and attended classes in drating/engineering Wittenberg College. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Louise VanOss, on October 20, 1945, and they spent the next 66 years together living and loving each other, and raising a family. Early in his career Chuck worked at International Harvester, the Champion Co. and Quick Mfg. He retired from Cooper Industries and subsequently worked as as engineer at Corrotec Inc. for several years. Chuck was also a past President of the Springfield Management Club. He served his country in the United States Army during W.W. II, as an X-ray techinician stationed in Belize, Brazil. Chuck was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a Mason. He also helped establish the "Gold Shoe" award sponsored by Springfield High School Class of '43. He and Doris always enjoyed traveling, and did so fairly extensively in later years. They visited Europe, hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, for their 50th wedding anniversary. Additionally, they traveled over much of the U.S., including Hawaii several times. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Robert Heisler. In addition to his wife Doris, he is surrvived by is three children, Marc, Jannis (Lewis) Mattson and Jon (Debra) Heisler, grandchildren Lewis Mattson Jr. and Sandra (Marc) Gibson, great granchild Anthony Gibson, nephews Kurt and Eric Heisler, niece Sylvia Heisler, and sister-in-law Maryellen Heisler. Visitation will be held from 4PM until 7PM Friday November 18, 2011 in the Littleton &amp; Rue Funeral Home where services will be held at 10AM Saturday. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery

James "Jim" Michael Shaver of Gassaway passed away May 2, 2012, at CAMC Hospital General Division, in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, following a short illness.
James was born in Fredrickstown, Mo., on September 20, 1933, to the late Oscar Forest "Buck" Shaver and Ruby Rebecca Boyce Shaver Sebert.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant sister and a grandson.

He was a Methodist by faith. He loved fishing, camping, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. James attended Burnsville School, and graduated from Sutton High School with the class of 1951.

He worked many different jobs when he was younger. He was a former employee of Mon Power Company. He owned and operated a used car business for 23 years, Shaver Motor Sales in Gassaway, with his wife, Virginia, from October 1966 until his retirement in June 1989.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with the Rev. Mark Stump officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Miner Killed
In Slate Fall

WIDEN, WV Lorenza Rush Carte, 53, of Dille, Clay County, died in a slate fall at the Clinchfield Coal Co. mine here yesterday shortly before noon.

Head and chest injuries caused death. He had been employed at the mine since 1936.

Carte belonged to the Union Baptist Church at Dille and the Widen local of the United Mine Workers.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Big Union Baptist Church at Dille. The Rev. Jim McLaughlin will officiate. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery on Strange Creek.

The'body is at the Waters Funeral Home in Summersville. It will be taken to the church an hour before services.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Martha Dancy and Mrs. Shelba Rogers, both of Dille, and Miss Janet Carte at home; three sons, Dana of Vermillion, Ohio, Delbert and Dale Carte, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Carte of Dille; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Tinnell and Mrs. Oma Tinnell, both of Birch River, and Mrs. Radie Hall of Strange Creek; two brothers, Richard and Loring Carte of Strange Creek, and 12 grandchildren.

Larry J. "Joe" Markle, 55, of Barton Lane, Webster Springs, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 16, 1950, in Buckhannon, he was a son of Kathleen Cogar Markle of Webster Springs and the late Stanton J. Markle. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alva and Iva Cogar; his paternal grandparents, John and Olive Markle; and a special friend, Becky Markle.

He loved his bicycles, Reese's Cups, tea and making new friends.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by brothers, Tom (Judy) Dillon of Craigsville, Danny (Joyce) Markle of Point Mountain, Shannon Markle of Gassaway and John (Lynette) Markle of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; sister, Debbie Barnette of Upperglade; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Dodd &amp; Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with the Rev. Sam Nichols and Brandon Moll officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Webster Springs.

Janet Sue (Morris) Kirik, 63, of Union City, Pa., passed away Monday, November 20, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Janet was born February 24, 1949, in Gassaway, a daughter to Madeline (Keener) Morris and the late Esker J. Morris Sr. Janet served on the Union City School Board for many years and was also an Avon representative and a private health-care provider. She loved her family, caring for animals, going antiquing and collecting quilts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Esker J. Morris Sr.; and a daughter, Karen Sue Kirik.

Survivors include her husband, Kervin K. Kirik of Union City, whom she married on October 25, 1969; a daughter, Kari Ann Kirik of Erie, Pa.; her mother, Madeline Morris of Sutton; sisters, Judy Ann Beane and her husband, Sterling, of Gassaway and Joy West of Baden, Pa.; and a brother, Esker J. Morris Jr. of Sutton.

Friends will be received at Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home, Inc., 62 South Main St., Union City, on Saturday, November 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. Further visitation will be held at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, 600 Riverview Drive, Sutton, on Monday, November 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., with funeral service held there on Tuesday, November 27, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Godfrey officiating. Interment will be in Keener Family Cemetery, Sutton.

WADSWORTH, Ohio - Eva Cutlip, 91, of Wadsworth, Ohio, died June 24, 2001, in the Magnolia Care Center after a long illness.
She was born June 7, 1910, in Webster County, W.Va.
She was a homemaker, a Baptist and she raised seven foster children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Walter W. Cutlip. Also precedeing her in death was one son, Cam and one infant daughter, Adrea.
She is survived by two sons, Stanly of Sutton, Scott of Heaters; two daughters, Myrtle Rose of Birch River, Daisy Carpenter of Wadsworth, Ohio; one sister, Irene Mick of Weston. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, W.Va. with the Rev. Bill Griffin and the Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Cutlip Cemetery, near Birch River, W.Va.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cheryl was born on December 1, 1944 in Lakeview, daughter of the late Verlin C. and Mary E Snapp Herndon. She was preceded in death by her son, John Lillard who passed away September 20, 2019.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Bill) Leonard of Roundhead, OH, five grandchildren, Ryan (Tia) Lillard, Jessica (Matt) Mathison, Seth (Anna) Lillard, Bailey Leonard and Rylee Leonard, ten great grandchildren, Burke, Madden, and Nixon Lillard, Gavin, Brody and Jaxen Orsborne, Kameron and Karlee Mathison, Thad and Finn Lillard, her aunt, Marilyn Snapp, and former husband, Mike Lillard.
Cheryl was a 1962 graduate of Stokes Local Schools. She worked for many years at Downtown Discount Grocery. Cheryl enjoyed reading. She loved being with all of her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 2-4 pm at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview.

Born Jan. 4, 1959 in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Brady and Audra (Neff) Miller.
Jim was a former welder for Waste Management.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Irene Lorello and a half-brother, Marlin Miller.

He was a prominent Wirt County businessman and was owner of Boggs Pennzoil for more than 50 years. He was born in Roane County, son of the later Mart and Blanche Boice Boggs. He was a Past Master of Burning Springs Lodge 132 A.F. &amp; A.M. He had a 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Parkersburg, he was Past Commander and member of 53 years of the American Legion Post 55 of Elizabeth, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and received the Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the American Theatre Ribbon.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years Cora Hall Boggs; one son Chester Lee Boggs of Elizabeth; one daughter, Shirley Marie Null of Elizabeth; one brother Charles Edward Boggs, of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Elizabeth Mae Bishop of Mt. Clair, W. Va., and Francis Vandall of Spencer; six grandchildren, Shonnette Copen, Amy Boggs and Alicia Cooke all of Elizabeth, Trey Whidden, Sheri Hall and Shannon Pelfrey all of Fort Myers, Fla.; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death along with his parents, by one infant son, one brother, Guy Boggs and one sister, Ruby Scott.
Service were held Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Randy Ash officiating. Burial is in K of P Cemetery with Masonic graveside rights.
