| 401 | Chris Christians, 88, of Waterloo, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center. He was born on September 16, 1928 in rural Aplington, Iowa, son of John and Mattie Rinnels Christians. He married Gvonne Cook on August 3, 1955 in Waterloo; she died November 3, 1992. Chris served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Construction Machinery for six years and then twenty-eight years at Carnation Dairy/Swiss Valley Farms, retiring in 1987. He then worked at the Waterloo Senior Center, retiring in 2004 and then volunteered there until 2015. Chris is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Randy) Nyman, Paula (Craig) Crowley, and Patty (Mike) Kruse; two grandchildren, Brianna (Chris) Sime and Mitchell (Kelly) Crowley; two great-grandchildren, Presley and Griffin Sime; five step grandchildren, Jenny (Dusty) Platte, Chris (Michelle Sagert) Kruse, Josh (Rachelle) Kruse, Matt (Martha Laughman) Nyman, and Heidi Hayden; eight step great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sam Platte, Rylee Pilar, Bennet, Kaya, and Chloe Kruse, Aiden and Maddox NymanLaughman; two sisters, Helen Harris and Mattie Schwab; one brother, John Christians, Jr.; and special family friend, Karla Murphy. | 402 | Christine Billings Deaner, 78, formerly of Roanoke, died suddenly Tuesday April 10, 2012, in Orange Park, Fla., where she resided with her twin sister. Chris was retired from The Roanoker Restaurant after 25 years. She was born December 19, 1933, to the late Robert M. and Kate H. Billings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald F. Deaner; sisters, Ruby Young, Mary Thompson, Catherine Johnson, and Callie Jones; and brothers, James Billings and Robert Billings. She survived by her twin sister, Geraldine Athan; sisters, Wanda Chapman and JoAn Jones (Sherman); brothers, Walter Billings (Ruth) and Kenneth Billings (Pat); also many nieces and nephews. She was born Jan. 24, 1964, in Cowen, W.Va., to Jessie L. and Janet (née Hall) Brooks. She grew up in the Spencer area and graduated from Black River High School in 1982. Cindy and her husband, Luke, have resided in Ashland the past 1 ½ years. She was a former employee of Modern Tool and Die in Valley City for 10 years. Surviving are her husband, Luke May, to whom she was married for more than 30 years; children, Daniel (Julieann) May of Virginia Beach, Va., Timothy Jon May of Virginia Beach, Va., Elizabeth Ann May of Rittman, Amanda Carlene (Brodie) Remington of Rittman and Olivia Renee May of Ashland; her mother, Janet Brooks of West Salem; along with seven grandchildren; four brothers, Kenny (Robin) Hall of Homerville, Kevin (Wilma) Brooks of Sullivan, Harry (Sue) Hall of Chatham, and Warren Brooks of Mansfield. Mrs. Spadafore was born on May 18, 1923, a daughter of the late John Rogers and Myrtle Lawson Rogers Frame of Sutton. She was married to Salvatore J. “Sam” Spadafore on December 2, 1965, who preceded her in death on February 4, 1990. Surviving are her children, Richard Malcom and his wife Sandy, Fairmont, Stephen Malcom and his wife Sandra, Charlotte, North Carolina, Diana Christafore, Clarksburg, Serena Ashcraft and her husband Danny, Mt. | 410 | CLARKSBURG — Mr. Loren Lee Flanigan, age 77, of Clarksburg, the Sardis Community, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family at his side. He was born on April 25, 1937, in Clarksburg, WV, the only child to Charles Raymond and Novella Genevive Harbert Flanigan. He retired from the Harrison County School Board as an Administrative Assistant. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Glenna Jane Knight Flanigan, whom he married on March 19, 1963; 5 children and spouses, Michael Flanigan and his companion, Debbie Adams, Marsha and Don Anderson, Marilyn and Earl Young, Mitzie and Chuck Reider and Melinda and Todd Webster; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; the family would like to also thank his special caregiver, Katie Whitehair. At his request, there will be no viewing and he will be cremated. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014, from the WV National Cemetery at 1 p.m., where full military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard. | 411 | Clayburn Lee “Buddy” McFarland, Sr., 82, died on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Hilda Virginia “Kathy” McFarland, 80, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at their home in Winchester, VA. Buddy was born on February 4, 1939, in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Charles I. and Della P. Boyce McFarland. Kathy was born on June 28, 1941 in Morgantown, WV, the daughter of the late Cecil and Mae E. Crites Kirby. Buddy worked 16 years for O’Connell Heating & AC and then 18 years for Valley Protein Company both in Winchester. He enjoyed hunting (especially coon hunting), fishing, gardening, playing the guitar, watching the Washington Wizards and Baltimore Orioles. Kathy was a former dietary aide at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Winchester, VA for 33 years. She enjoyed making candy, crocheting, canning, gardening and being with family & friends. Buddy and Kathy were married on December 2, 1960, in Winchester, VA. Surviving are their three sons: Clayburn L. McFarland, Jr. of Winchester, VA; Greg W. | 413 | Clayton Fincher Quillen, 83, of Jonesville Road, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. He was born Sept. 23, 1932, in Spruce Pine, Alabama, the son of Tommy and Lolie Lee Thompson Quillen. Clayton married Betty Niemoeller on June 10, 1955. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2004. The funeral will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jonesville with the Pastor Ed Keinath officiating. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Jonesville. Throughout his life, Clayton worked over four decades for Cosco (now known as Dorel). He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. He was active in the American Legion, VFW, as well as previously served as Union Steward and President for Carpenter’s Union Local 1775. Clayton’s hobbies include gardening, and especially enjoyed going on vacation with his family. Clayton is survived by two daughters, Joan Quillen and June Hanson; grandchildren, Clayton, Joanie, and John Hanson all of Columbus, Indiana, and Elizabeth Blackburn; as well as a great‐grandson, Jeffrey Blackburn of Casa Grande, Arizona; three brothers, Charlie, Raymond and Frank Quillen; and one sister, Polly Quillen. He was born June 21, 1967 to Nellie "Carol" (Carpenter) Eberling and the late Clifford J. Eberling I. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a sister; Carolyn Unkefer. In addition to his mother; Nellie "Carol" (Carpenter) Eberling he is survived by his wife; Laura Eberling, whom he married July 1, 1989,sons; Clifford (Alicia) Eberling III, Aaron (Devin) Eberling, Zakary Eberling, grandchildren; Peyton, Milah, Americus, Clifford IV, Carson, Ashton, Hazel, and sister; Darlene Higgins, extended family and friends. Clifford was employed through the years at American Steel Foundries, Reed's Tree Service, Mac Trailer and retired from East Manufacturing, three years ago because of his declining health. He enjoyed all types of music, except rap and played in a local band for many years. He enjoyed rides on his motorcycle with his wife, camping, and hunting deer. Mr. Williams was born May 31, 1913, at Marpleton, a son of the late George and Nancy Lake Williams. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Brown Williams, Cowen; four sons, Carl E. Williams, Buckhannon, Archie Williams, Cleveland, Ohio, Cecil Williams, Jerrys Run, and Frankie Williams, Replete; three daughters, Winnie Queen and Ruby Helmick, both of Buckhannon, and Frances Harper, Sutton; four brothers, Roscoe W. Williams, Belington, Jess W. Williams, Monongah, Wilbert Williams, Goodman, Mo., and George (June) Williams Jr., Kingmont; 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the Church of Christ, Parkersburg, W. Va. Snapp on September 20, 1959, at Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe, OH and she survives along with their two daughters, Lisa (Steve Fridley) Park of Lakeview, and Gina (Aaron) Jenkins of Villa Rica, GA, three grandchildren, Hannah Park, Dylan (Brittany) Jenkins, and Justin (Miranda) Jenkins, two great-granddaughters, Alithia and Elaina, a sister, Marilyn (Albert) Barnes of Wapakoneta, OH and sister-in-law, LaDema VanGundy of Wapakoneta. Dale was a 1958 graduate of Stokes Local School in Lakeview. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Airstream for 23 years and the Honda of America Manufacturing for 21 years before retiring. Dale was a member of Grace Chapel Christian Union Church and Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed attending gun shows, a true believer in the 2nd Amendment. Dale enjoyed watching live sporting events with his wife and classic cars. He was ornery and fun, enjoying making people laugh even at the most inappropriate times. No one was a stranger when Dale was in the room, and to know him was to love him. He was an amazing husband and father who loved to spoil his family. He will be tremendously missed by his family and close friends. | 437 | Dan Van Lue, 67, of Syracuse, passed away on January 9, 2020 at Goshen Hospital. He was born on August 19, 1952 in Tipton, IN to John & Eloyce (Brinegar) Van Lue. On January 2, 1972, he married Barb Klenke who survives. He was a longtime area resident, having resided in Syracuse since 1962. Graduating from Wawasee High School in 1970. While in high school, He worked at Wawasee Electronics for Dick and Jack Maresh becoming their first employee. After high school graduation, he attended IUPU Fort Wayne, graduating with a degree in electronics, his lifelong hobby. He continued to work at Wawasee Electronics eventually becoming the President. The opportunity arose to open up a Radio Shack Franchise to which he, his wife and children owned and operated since 1979 in Syracuse, Nappanee, and Goshen. Throughout his career in electronics, he continually operated Electro-Net/Radio Shack, incorporating services such as electronic repair, satellite/antenna TV installation, cell phone service, and the Video Connection. Dan was a past President and Paul Harris Fellow as a longtime member of the Syracuse-Wawasee Rotary Club. He was active in scouting his whole life, having attained the rank of Eagle Scout at Syracuse Boy Scout Troop 28, now Troop 728. He was a Cub Master of Pack 3828 for over 15 years. Dan was instrumental in the Rotary Scout Cabin which serves as the home lodge for Boy Scout Troop 728. Dan also was passionate about the Town of Syracuse, which he served on the Town Redevelopment Committee. He was an owner-operator for multiple trucking companies and performed much of his own maintenance while in those roles. He further displayed his mechanical aptitude by building and racing cars. In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Martin; and his brother, Ray. He is survived by his daughters, Danielle Slonka, Gabrielle Jones, and Catherine Martin; two grandchildren, Emma and Alli; and his long-time companion, Tina Rapport. He also leaves his brother, Mark; and his sisters, Kay, Angie, and Crystal. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 5, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. He was born Nov. 2, 1955, in Coshocton, to Belva (Hamrick) Langdon of Howard, and the late Donald J. Langdon. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and formerly employed at the Millwood Sand Plant for 24 years. He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. (Langdon) Langdon, whom he married June 17, 1996. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Langdon is survived by a son, Mitchel (Courtney) Langdon of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Yolanda (Jason) Ewalt of Howard; two stepsons, Ronald McVay Jr. of Fredericktown and Ryan (Verna) McVay of Conesville; two grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Andrew Langdon of Elkhart, Ind., and Chris Langdon of Howard; a sister, Kathy (Wayne) Garvin of Coshocton; a grandmother, Arzona Hamrick of Wesbster Springs, W.Va.; and several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, a great-niece and two great-nephews. | 445 | Danny Lee Markle, 66 of Webster Springs went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Friday, October 11, 2019 at his home with his family by his side. He was born December 17, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Stanton John and Kathleen Gaye Cogar Markle. Danny graduated Webster Springs High School in 1971 and attended Glenville State College. He was a well-respected Webster County Magistrate for 28 years; was an avid outdoorsman; and loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, whom he enjoyed taking on 4-wheeler rides around the farm. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a devout Christian and active member of Barton Church where he was Superintendent and Adult Sunday School Teacher. Danny was a loyal Mason and member of Addison Lodge #116 where he served as Secretary/Treasurer. In 2009, he was chosen as Outstanding Democrat of the Year for Webster County. Some of his favorite trips included his annual Sugar Creek outing with his best friends, going hunting in Wyoming with his brothers, and traveling to Sunset beach, NC with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce Gerwig Markle; children Danielle (husband Eric) Brooks of Bland, VA, Seth (wife Sherry) Markle of Morgantown, and Gabriel (wife Leslie) Markle of Webster Springs; grandchildren Nathaniel Brooks, Parker Brooks, Liam Markle, Eliza Markle, and Reid Markle; sister Debby (husband Bryan) Moore; brothers Shannon (wife Jennifer) Markle and John (wife Tammy) Markle; and many other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Larry Joe Markle. | 446 | Danny Weaver 73, of Randolph, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on April 16th, 2020. He was born April 24th, 1946 in Akron, Ohio. He was a great husband to our mother for 33 years until her passing in 1998. Then in later years he found love again with our stepmother, Judi Weaver of 13 years until her passing in 2018. He worked at B.F. Goodrich for 20 years and then ventured into truck driving until his retirement. He was a loving, generous and kind man who had instilled in his family all of the good old-fashioned staples that have been almost forgotten. He was a man who mastered everything he set his mind to. This included archery, champion blood line breeding with his hunting dogs, coon hunting, his love for boating, fishing, singing, and his absolute passion for gardening. He was a man who could light up a room and lift spirits with all his stories and sense of humor. A man with a huge heart. He loved his family deeply, and we loved him beyond words. He is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Weaver; our mother, Mary Weaver; and stepmother, Judi Weaver. She was born in Peebles, Ohio on February 17, 1941, the daughter of the late William and Carolyn Berry. Darlene retired from Muncy Corporation and previously worked at Ohio Thermometer and T.C.A. She was a member of Maplewood Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tammy Yinger of Springfield; three grandchildren, Mandalyn, Jeff and Annika; and special friend, Sharon Stickney. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles R. Yinger; sister, Connie Davis; and aunt, Betty Leeth.
