- Barton Joseph “Bart” Williams died at his home in Dyersburg on Thursday, August 13, 2020.
Bart was born on September 4, 1955, in Greenville, Ohio, to Ardyce and the late Jack Williams. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1973, he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he earned a Bachelors in Education. At Miami, Bart also met his wife Molly. After graduating in 1977, Bart and Molly moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where Bart began his teaching career. In 1980, Bart and Molly moved to Dyersburg; and Bart taught at Bogota School and Fifth Consolidated before moving to Dyersburg Middle School and finally Dyersburg Intermediate School, where he has been a Guidance Counselor for 27 years. Bart earned a Masters degree in Counseling from UT Martin and a Masters in Biology Education from Miami University.
Bart has been a longtime member of the Dyersburg Civitan Club and numerous other community organizations. He was an active member of the Newbern Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He previously served as a member of the City of Dyersburg Board of Aldermen.
Bart is survived by his mother, Adyce Williams of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; his wife Marianna “Molly” Williams; his children Grace and Richard Bailey, Molly and Eli Logan, Kirk and Lauren Williams, all of Memphis, Tennessee; and Laurie Williams of Washington, DC; his grandchildren Penelope, Walter, Harriet, and Edward Logan; Margaret and Richard Bailey; and Kathryn Williams; his brother Tom Williams (Lynne) of Lexington, Kentucky; sister Gwen Keiser (Randy) of Brentwood, Tennessee; and brother David Williams of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack L. Williams.
To honor Mr. Williams, a drive-by visitation will be held at Dyersburg Intermediate School on Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Guests are asked to enter from the Phillips Street entrance. Given current national conditions and the family’s concern for the health and well being of others, you are asked to stay in your vehicle as you visit with the family.
