- William Burton Lawson born Feb. 3, 1971, in Painesville, Ohio, to parents Linda R. Evans (Philip) and William W. Lawson (Mary). He graduated from Ben Eielson High School in 1989 and went on to join the military. He drew his last breath in Seattle, Washington, on Feb. 11, 2023, mainly we suspect to prevent himself from having to watch the hated Eagles in the Super Bowl. A loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, he died peacefully surrounded by family with support of co-workers.
Wil was known to share his innate wisdom and love anyone lucky enough to call him family or friend. He was thoughtful, compassionate and not afraid to share an opinion. He inspired friends to live, give back and share their unique gifts afforded to them with others. He had a passion for photography, and the Alaska Range gave him many opportunities to capture the beauty. Other hobbies included writing poetry, watching the Cowboys play and sharing his love of music with friends.
A strong commitment to strive, he served in the 168th Alaska Air National Guard and volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club. Wil was devoted to his godson from the first day he was born and did not take his responsibility lightly. His godson, Tristan, was the light of his life and stated in a letter to the family, "Nothing should be taken for granted in this lifetime. Life is short."
Along with his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Rebecca and Elizabeth Lawson; his brother, Jesse Chumbley-Lawson; nieces, Cassandra Lawson and Melyssa Perez; nephews, Jacob Woodward and Isaac Perez; godson, Tristian Chase; and his parents, Dana and Lance Chase.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at The Lighthouse at Door of Hope Church in Fairbanks.
