      Richard V. Bodey, age 90, formerly of St. Paris, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 4:25 p.m. in Hearth and Home of Vandalia. Born on September 1, 1927 in Champaign County, Richard was a son of the late Ray and Myrtle (Smith) Bodey. He married Betty J. Moore on May 8, 1953 and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2005. Richard is survived by three children: Gary (Linda) Bodey of Huber Heights, Cheryl (Tom) Holly of Vandalia, and Jeff (June) Bodey of Miamisburg. He was a loving grandfather to two grandchildren: Todd (Tara) Bodey of Enon, OH and Kip Bodey of Dallas, TX, and three great grandchildren: Josh, Luke, and Kendra Bodey. Many nieces, nephews and extended family members also survive him. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son Kenneth, brother, Thurman (Kay) Bodey, and a sister, Phyllis (Romeo) Nicholas. When he was young, Richard played semi-pro baseball and was drafted into the USMC and sent to WWII just as he was accepted into the pros. He was a machinist by trade and was co-owner of ABG Tool. Richard enjoyed fishing, growing, and hunting his own food. He also loved fox hunting with his friends. He was known for the Millerstown’s Wine Cellar and was made an honorary member in charge of refreshments for the police motorcycle club, the Blue Knights of Dayton. He loved playing the guitar, banjo, and ukulele. He liked to play golf and he and his wife Betty enjoyed bowling. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, St. Paris, Ohio. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
