- Doris Irene Runkle, 82, of Jacksonville died Sunday afternoon, January 7, 2007 at Modern Care Nursing and Rehab Center in Jacksonville. She was born June 26, 1924 in Littleton the daughter of Maurice and Mary Ruth Newell Winters.
She married Ralph Wheeler Runkle on February 28, 1942 in Palmyra, MO and he preceded her in death on October 11, 1999. She is survived by two sons, R. Steven (wife, Shelley) Runkle of Colorado Springs, CO and Ben (wife, Patricia) Runkle of Sturgeon, MO; two daughters, Donna (husband, Bob) Roads of Jacksonville and Judy (husband, Jim) Seitz of West Point, IA; 8 grandchildren, James Seitz of Weaver, IA, Jennifer DeWitt of Jacksonville, Craig Runkle of Denver, CO, Melissa Burns of Colorado Springs, CO, Daniel Roads of Jacksonville, James Copely of St. Petersburg, FL and Allison and Michelle Runkle both of Sturgeon, MO and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Runkle grew up in Littleton and moved to Industry in 1951. While living in Industry she was a Certified Sunday School Teacher and was involved with many church activities. After spending 12 years in Industry they moved to Carrollton where she was employed as the bookkeeper at LaCrosse Lumber Co. for 20 years.
Due to her husband's illness they moved to Jacksonville in 1983. In 2004 she moved to Knollwood Retirement Village in Jacksonville. She was a member of the First Christian Church in South Jacksonville, First Christian Women's Group and the Jacksonville Doll Club. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her great joy and she was especially proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Littleton Township Cemetery in Littleton.
