- Ernest Harding
Ernest M. Harding was born December 4, 1923, in Boyds, MD, son of the late William T. and Exie Mae Harding. He married Virginia Mae McCloud December 20,1960.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; brothers, Benjamin Harding and David Harding and sisters, Evelyn Gray and Pauline Everson.
He entered the service, January 2, 1942, stationed in Hawaii and saw ground combat during World war II, serving with the Army on the island of Iwo Jima. He was discharged December 14, 1945. He rose to the rank of corporal and received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He reenlisted in the Army in 1946 and was discharged in 1949. He served at Fort Dix, New Jersey, 17th Airborne Division; Blackstone, Virginia and War College in Washington, D.C.
In 1949,he began his employment in the Public Works Department at the National Navy Medical Center, In Bethesda Maryland. He retired from the Department of the Navy in 1978 with thirty years of service.
