  Notes	Peninsula Clarion, Kenai Alaska Sunday, March 28, 2010 Longtime Kenai resident Lois L. Massie died Saturday, March 13th at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. She was 63. No services will be held as per her request. Mrs. Massie was born Dec. 14, 1946 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Budge and Artie Mayse. She graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School in 1963 and from Fairmont State College in 1969. She started her teaching career at Kenai Central High School Aug. 27, 1970 where she continued teaching until her retirement in May of 1995. She married Cliff Massie on July 20, 1973 in West Virginia. She was a dedicated educator and spent long hours with her students. Students wrote: "Thank you for touching so many lives. I have thought of you often and over the years have shared what I learned from you with my students. Indeed, your legacy extends beyond your years as a teacher." Another student wrote: "I still remember reading Bartleby the Scrivener in early bird English, and now I teach AP English myself. I feel so fortunate to have received such a great education. Thanks for being a part of so many lives." A third student wrote: "When I think back on my days at KCHS, some of my fondest memories are in your early bird AP English class. You brought literature to life for me, and I hope that I can do the same for my students. Thank you for your tireless dedication to expanding our view of the world through education." Those who have been to the Massie home know that she and Cliff were avid gardeners. Flower beds are abundant and overflowing along with flowering trees and shrubs. The sound of frogs can be heard in the summer from the pond. Her love of all animals was a lifelong passion. Mrs. Massie was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her two brothers, Budge Mayse Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Clarksburg, W.V., and David Mayse and his wife, Jenny, of Warren, Ohio; niece and nephews, Amy Mayse and Lee Mayse of Ohio and Phillip Mayse of California; great-nieces and nephew, Nolan Mayse, Bailey Hanna, Brittany and Bridgette Mayse; aunts, Billy Stawicki and Patty Allagas of Ohio and Berthie Cutlip of West Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Massie's memory to the Central Peninsula Health Foundation, Way out Women (WOW), c/o Kathy Lopeman, 250 Hospital Place, Soldotna, Alaska 99669. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
