- Mrs. M. Eileen Johnson, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, July 8, 2016 peacefully at her home.
Eileen was born October 5, 1928 in Kirksville, Mo. the daughter of Edgar “Crispy” and Mary Irene Glynn Ward. She was married on May 5, 1951 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Charles Johnson.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Eileen was a 1946 graduate of St. Peters High School. She graduated from the Jefferson City Junior College and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
Eileen was employed for thirty-nine years with the Missouri State Senate where she was elected the Director of Enrolling and Engrossing by the Senators. She retired on January 1, 1997. Previously, she was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Conservation and the Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Office.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Immaculate Conception Church Circle, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ya Ya Girls.
Eileen enjoyed playing bridge with “The Bridge Club”, crossword puzzles, antiquing and was an avid reader. She also loved watching birds, playing golf, traveling, shopping, going to the casinos and going out to eat with her friends and having a martini.
Survivors include: her husband of sixty-five years, Charles Johnson; one daughter, Crissy Wilson and her husband Dexter of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Gloria Johnson of Jefferson City, Mo.; one niece, Ruthi Sturdevant and her husband Craig of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Mildred “Millie” Swackhamer of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Crystal Johnson, and Rebecca Seward and her husband Greg; three great-grandchildren, Lilliane Seward, Gwendolyn Seward, and Genevieve Seward; and two great nephews, Ben Sturdevant and Casey Sturdevant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Johnson on July 1, 2000; one sister, Pat Ward Jones; one niece, Kathy Jones Potter; and two brothers-in-law, K.C. Jones and Robert “Pete” Swackhamer.
Visitation will be at the Cathedral of St. Joseph from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Monsignor Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Immaculate Conception Church or the Helias Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
