- NEW CARLISLE -- Melvin E. Harvey, 77, of New Carlisle, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, at 4:27 p.m. in the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
He was born June 6, 1928, in Champaign County, the son of the late Garnard Earl and Pauline Vivian (Boswell) Harvey. He married Viola "Mae" Beck on Jan. 24, 1953, and she survives.
He also is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Ousley of Troy; two grandsons, Ryan McGinnis and Lucas Engels of Troy; two sisters, Evelyn Stevens of Taylor, Ark. and Sherry (Virgil) Amlin of St. Paris; and two brothers, Dwaine (Mildred) Harvey of Fletcher and Steve (Brenda) Harvey of St. Paris. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Melvin attended Jackson School, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a mechanic at Hobart Brothers in Troy and was a volunteer for the Christiansburg Fire Department. Melvin attended the Lower Honey Creek Baptist Church, New Carlisle.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Upper Honey Creek Cemetery, South Elm Tree Road, St. Paris. The Miami County V.E.T.S will provide military services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, is serving the family.
