- William "Bill" Leffel, Jr., who was affectionately called "Bump", passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Allegiance Health in Jackson.
He was born on May 9, 1938 in Jackson, Michigan to William Sr. and Lois (McCollum) Leffel.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; three children, Jo Lynn Curry, Randy (Amy) Leffel and Dawn (Shane) Robinson; four grandchildren, Andrea (Joe) Weir, Chip (Emily) Curry, Lauren Leffel and Danielle Holland; five great grandchildren, Kaden, Aiden, Jakob, Colton and Caroline; one sister, Luana Alexander; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; two sisters, Laura Adams and Charlene Clark and his mother-in-law, Virginia Hatch.
Bill was a wonderful, dedicated family man who loved to play with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed repairing small engines, tinkering in his shop and helping his family with anything at all, whether they needed it or not.
He was well known throughout the community and spent 52 years on the Hanover Township Fire Department, retiring as a Captain. In 2008, he was both humbled and honored to receive a Special Tribute from the State of Michigan for his dedication and exemplary service to the Hanover Township Fire Department.
In addition to this special tribute, he also received a resolution proclaiming October 18th as the William Leffel Jr. day in honor of his years of service to Hanover Township.
The family is especially grateful to the Hanover Township Fire Department, JCA and the staff in the Emergency Room at Allegiance Health for their heroic efforts, kindness and compassion. A memorial service to honor the life of Bill was held at the Hillside United Methodist Church, Horton with Pastor Pat Pebley officiating.
