He was also preceeded by his sister, Wanda Lee Powell White. He was a member of the Shenandoah Baptist Church in Roanoke for 31 years and the Botetourt Community Church, Daleville for the past four years. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Velma Mae Barger Powell; three children, Ricky Wayne (Janet) Powell, Cynthia Kaye Zuberer and Philip Ray (Holly) Powell and eleven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 3, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Eagle Rock, Va.
