- Barbara Katherine Lillian Kleiber Wetterman, 71, of Marysville and a lifetime resident of Union County, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Grant Medical Center as a result of injuries she suffered in an auto accident on Oct. 19.
She retired after 35 years as an associate of Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, now Fifth Third Bank, in Marysville.
A skilled seamstress, she was well known for sewing garments and making alternations for many people. She frequently assisted her husband with clerking and bookkeeping duties on the county fair harness racing circuit throughout Ohio.
She enjoyed gardening and sharing her flowers with numerous friends and relatives. She was devoted to her family and extended family and offered care and compassion in so many ways. She readily included friends and acquaintances in her family circle, sharing in their joys and grief as if they were her own.
She was a life member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she had served as financial secretary and was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, ladies aid and Valparaiso Guild. She also participated in the Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon quilting circles, bereavement ministry, and, for many years, she served as secretary/treasurer of St. John’s AAL/Thrivent Branch. She also delivered devotional booklets and recordings of the Sunday church services to the homebound.
She was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Union Township, to the late Herman L. and Matilda Blumenschein Kleiber. She was baptized on Nov. 29, 1936, at St. John’s, where she was confirmed on April 2, 1950. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School through eighth grade and graduated from Chuckery Darby High School in 1954.
On Oct. 21, 1956, she married David W. Wetterman Jr. at St. John’s, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2005. She also was predeceased by her father- and mother-in-law, David W. Sr. and Emelia Wetterman; a sister-in-law, Lillian Wetterman; a brother-in-law, Dr. William Hahn; and dear friends, Erwin and Marie Rausch and their daughter, Sandra Rausch Kramer.
She is survived by her daughter, Lana (the Rev. Dr. Ken) Schurb of Moberly, Mo.; her son, Craig (Sandra Pinkerton) Wetterman of Columbus; two grandchildren, Ana-Maria and Luke Schurb; two sisters, Marilyn Hahn of Valparaiso, Ind., and Lois Smith of Erie, Pa.; two nieces, Dr. Karla (Saul Strieb) Hahn of Silver Spring, Md., and Emily Smith of New York City; two nephews, Douglas (Mari) Hahn of Valparaiso, and Gregory (Paula) Hahn of Arkadelphia, Ark.; her aunt, Bertha Kleiber of Marysville; dear friends, Thomas and Jeanine Rausch, Roger and Sandra Rausch and June and Jimmy Carmean; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and loving friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. John W. Fair will officiate, and burial will be at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Underwood Funeral Home.
