- Ray was the son of Harold R. Markley, Sr. and Nelle Bice. He graduated from Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio, in 1979. Following graduation, he proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army for 13 years.
After the service he was employed at CSX Railroad for over 20 years where he served as a Foreman and Union Steward. He was also employed as an Iron Worker at Local 55 for over 10 years. Ray was an avid Harley Davidson Rider and he enjoyed riding alongside his brother, Mitch.
A resident of Oregon, Ray passed away at his home in Wildwood, Florida, surrounded by family and friends. He was survived by his wife, Rose Markley; father, Harold R. Markley, Sr.; "Mom," Sharon Markley; children, Alyssa Markley, Olivia Markley (Clint), Harold R. Markley, III (Alyssa); and Leah Spencer (Jake); eight grandchildren who lovingly called him "Grumpy Grampy;" lifelong friend and ex-wife, Vicki Markley; sister, Tina Markley Walsh (Trevor); mother, Nelle Bice; step-sister, Jennifer Lee (David); step-brother, Mike Bice; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mitchell L. Markley, Sr.
Military honors were held at Willow Cemetery on May 18, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life followed at the East Toledo Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.
