  Notes	LUFKIN – Jerry Bob Matthews died on Feb. 22, 2007. He was born in Houston on Jan. 28, 1937 and was reared in West Columbia. After graduating from high school, he attended Sam Houston State University, where he met his future wife, Mary Clark Matthews. They married on Nov. 27, 1959 and went on to have three children, Sharon, Brenda and Stephen. Mr. Matthews was a gifted pianist and songwriter. His musical achievements included multiple record/CD releases, many songs obtaining radio airplay, winning several talent show awards and numerous television appearances. In addition to over 50 years of performing, he also retired from the City of Houston after 21 years of service. He served as a supervisor in the water department and later as a police service officer with the Houston Police Department. He was also an ordained minister of the gospel. In the early 1990s, Jerry and Mary pastored Living Faith Worship Center in Waller before returning to Houston and joining fellowship with Trinity Worship Center. He also taught private piano lessons for advanced students on a select basis. They moved to Livingston in 2001 and lived there for five years. Mr. Matthews performed at many events around Livingston and Lufkin during that time. His passions were his faith in Jesus Christ, his family and his music. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Michael Wright and Brenda and Karl Kluetz; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Amy Matthews; four grandchildren; brothers, Don Matthews and Mike Matthews and sister, Lou Bayless. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Matthews and granddaughter, Amie Wright. A memorial service was held Friday, March 9, at Trinity Worship Center, 13833 Stancliff St., Houston. Interment was held March 10 at Old Union Cemetery in Lufkin.
